From a sub appellation of Marlborough, the Southern Valley is warmer and has a higher proportion of clay in its top soil than the classic river gravels for which Marlborough is famed. The Huru vineyards have an average age of 10-20 years. The 2014 vintage in Marlborough started a little earlier than usual with a long run of early and mid-season dry weather – laying the foundation for a good harvest. Late season rains came in mid-April, causing some challenges that were overcome as harvest was already well advanced. There is an array of punchy aromatics suggesting pink grapefruit, mango, passion fruit and lime blossom. On the palate this wine has concentrated citrus and tropical fruit flavors followed by fresh mineral acidity.
