Talbingo Hill Winery 2010 Shiraz from South Eastern Australia is their down under selection in part because of the Australian Shiraz unique character of mulberry, spicy and slightly wild flavor. The Shiraz grape is the same grape as the Syrah grape from the Rhone Valley in France. Although planted since 1832 in Australia, it was not until the 1980 that the wine’s versatile character was recognized. The grape provides a full rich flavor with high alcohol content, which may be as high as 16%. Talbingo Hill Shraz is a deep ruby color. It has a nose of black cherry and bright berry with a palate that is sweet with candied plum and soft fruit flavors with just a hint of black pepper with a firm tannin structure and oak note. Wine is great to be consumed now but should be drunk prior to 2015.
